Holocaust Memorial Day

Barnabas has marked Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) since January 2013. He has organised and spoken at events across the United Kingdom and internationally, reaching thousands of people. He served on the Youth Board of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust for eight years, including one as its chair and worked as a Communications Officer for the Trust in support of HMD 2022.

Through his work, Barnabas has organized a reception for the UK Houses of Parliament, created print, media, and online press content, led ceremonies, written blog posts, conducted training sessions, and spoken to UK national leaders including the Chief Rabbi, Metropolitan Police Commissioner, and Prime Minister.

Barnabas regularly speaks to print, broadcast, and online media to raise awareness of Holocaust Memorial Day.

University of exeter hmd schools conference

Since founding the event in January 2017, Barnabas has spoken at the University of Exeter’s annual schools conference to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The event brings 200 students from across the South West of England to the University to hear personal histories of the Holocaust and learn about its history.

In the eight years that the event has been running, it has reached over 1,500 students and countless more through the families, friends, and colleagues of the attendees, as well as the significant attention the conference gets from local media. It is now the largest event run by the University of Exeter’s Humanities Widening Participation team.

University of oxford hmd events series

At the University of Oxford, Barnabas organised three events series, in 2021, 2022, and 2023, funded by the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities and the Magdalen College Trust.

Each series brought together Holocaust survivors, campaigners, and educators to reflect on the history and contemporary relevance of the Holocaust. They drew hundreds of attendees.

Keynote speaker

Barnabas has delivered keynote speeches at HMD events across the country, including with Devon County Council, Oxford City Council, Lambeth Borough Council, and University College Birmingham.
